These Titan Chain diamond-pattern chains are great winter weather chains. If you live in an area where you're likely to get periodic snow and ice, these chains are perfect because they're durable and easy to mount. And they're lightweight and compact, so they store in your vehicle nicely too.

These chains are among the easiest and fastest to install because they have built-in tensioners that you can just pull taut to adjust the fit. These tensioners allow the chains to fit your tires, no matter the profile or wear pattern. And because the tensioners are built-in, you never have to worry about losing them like you might with other chains on the market.

Class S Designation

SAE Class S tire chains are designed for use on passenger vehicles with restricted wheel-well clearance. Most newer cars, vans, and small trucks - especially those with large aftermarket tires - will require Class S chains. If you're unsure about the class of your vehicle, consult your vehicle's user manual.

SAE Class S Clearance Diagram

These chains will fit your tires provided there is both:

  • A - a minimum of 1.46" (37 mm) between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well
  • B - at least 0.59" (15 mm) between the tire's sidewall and the vehicle

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer. You'll also need to know how much clearance is in your wheel well, which you can determine by measuring from your tire tread to the sidewall of the wheel well.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Installing Tire Chains

Installing these chains is incredibly simple.

Lay chains on the ground to get all the tangles out

1. Lay out the chains on the ground to make sure there are no twists or kinks.

Slide chains behind the tire

2. Spread the chain around the back of the tire.

Make connections behind the tire

3. Connect the ends of the cable, which will sit behind the tire.

Attach green hook to yellow side chains

4. Around front, connect the 2 ends of the yellow side chain using the green hook at the top of the tire.

Feed tensioner through clips

5. At the bottom of the tire, feed the silver tensioning chain through the red channel bracket and pull it taut. Then run the tensioner through as many red clips along the side chain as you can, leaving room to still be able to stretch the hook across the tire.

Recheck tension

6. Attach the hook to the side chain directly across from the last clip you ran the tensioner through. The hook should face away from your tire. Pull your vehicle forward 2-3 vehicle lengths and recheck the tension.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire, as shown below.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

Fantastic product with low profile fit on 2015 Grand Cherokee. Easy installation. Make sure the GREEN link is at the top when you take them off, so that it lines up with clasp on the inside of tire for easy removal.

2006 GMC Sierra

Excellent service and a very good product. I had a slight issue and they handled it right away. The product itself is like a knobby ice and snow grabber, it works well. I have a 2wd and am considering a second pair for the front tires. Installation is straightforward. I always advise practicing the install multiple times at home because it’s a lot more difficult in sub 20f temps ;).

I highly recommend the product, etrailer, and winter tires

Ps buy a few backup rubber tighteners just in case!

2012 Nissan Titan

I woke to an unusual 7- 12 in's. of wet heavy snow... Power out all over and needed to help friends get winter storm supplies, cooking stove propane, water, ice for coolers etc... After going over the Sierra's about a year previously with my son in a different vehicle and having to chain up, I got to see how relatively easy they went on and how they got us over the mountain. I live in the valley so this kind of purchase was something I thought would only come in handy in mountain travel something I usually wouldn't do. I decided to purchase a set of Titan Alloy Snow Tire Chains and adjusters just to be prepared as you never know what’s coming... I'm glad I made the purchase! Maneuvering around in the approx. 8 inches was simple and when I needed to go through deeper piles they got me there without a problem. Grown up in a snow country and having put on traditional chains these were so less complicated to install. Driving below or no more than the recommended speed made drive in a difficult situation easier.

2022 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500

Shipping was prompt (as it always is form etrailer). The chains looked good and were fairly easy to get on the tires (Mercedes Sprinter 245/75-16). They look like a snug fit that should work well on the available clearance. Since is is early Aug. it will be a few months before testing them. Will be making a trip to CO this fall where they may get tested on performance.

2010 Chevrolet Tahoe

I totally enjoy this snow chains... First of all the price is great... Second the case for the chains are totally awesome it has some much room that you can put more stuffs in it like working gloves and knee pads for travel in the snow again... Third the colors on the chains and the instructions were so simple that all it took me to watch the video demonstration and kazame ..! I am on it... Fourth the time it took me to put it on we're so fast that I timed myself on the first try... Less than 6 minutes and I wasn't even trying because it was that simple... I loved this design of putting on the snow chains that I bought two cases of it so that my family could use it too... I had bought others in the past and it was too difficult due to required when putting it on... Like lasy weekend I use it in the south Lake Tahoe for my family vacation and when I actually excited to use it to show my wife this is a great product to invest in but she just said, "it is still the same as other as she could see." Oh man, can't wait to prove her wrong... As we reach to the area where snow chains are require, I was saying to myself now watch your hubby be back in the flash... I told her to look at the other drivers that were there sometime before me that were trying to put on some Walmart brands (wire/chain) snow chains and as I got out of the car...once I Open the case with all the extra stuffs I put in like gloves and knee pads; the snow chains were on like in 10 minutes and when I got back in the car... My wife said, "what..?" She was in shock of how fast and quick that on her face the expression of are you sure you put it on at all... Cause the other drivers are still trying to communicate with their wives to driving forward over the chains and turn the tires outward blah blah... I said, "yep, I did." From that point on my wife never question me about the chain ... And yes we reach to Lake Tahoe safely and especially in great time too... Thanks for making this wonderfully simple and yet strong design snow chains... Peter -ca 12/1/2016 Thursday

I purchased the chains to comply with the requirement to carry chains when traveling in the mountains. As I have 4 wheel drive and M&S tires, I have yet to need to use the chains.

Great experience and your site runs well. It was easy to use and you have great detail around the fit and installation of the chains.

I have not had to use it out here in WA as I have all wheel drive and grew in VT driving daily in the snow and ice. However I have them in case the need comes up and the ease of setting them up is why I did choose them.

2020 Kia Telluride

These fit my Telluride perfect! I have steep snow covered roads to travel on in the winter and these are so easy to put in and take off. I bought four, but I probably could have gotten away with two. However, I like the safety and confidence 4 give me when the roads are extremely treacherous.

2021 Toyota Tacoma

Loved these chains. Got them for my father-in-law who drives a 2021 Toyota Highlander Hybrid AWD. I gifted him some winter tires since he drives up north during winter and comes across lots of rain/snow. Ended up buying him these chains when I borrower his car for a trip to Big Bear Lake here in SoCal during Feb 2021. I would definitely recommend getting winter/snow rated tires and getting these chains as added security. We ended up using the chains for about 20% of our trip and even though you might think that's not a whole lot I can tell you for a fact that if we didnt have these chains we would have had to park the car about a 100yards away from the Cabin we rented and had to have walked in 20 degree weather. Cabin was up on a hill and road was pretty icy. Now Im looking to get a set for my 4x4 Tacoma. Friends call me crazy for wanting to get chains for a proper 4x4 truck but I rather have it and not need it then need it and not have it.
Side Note: I recommend putting the chains on and off a few times at home to get used to how everything works so when its cold/snowing you can properly put them on and not risk rushing and messing something up.

2001 Pontiac Bonneville

I bought these tire chains just in case it was snowing the day of my daughter's wedding in Incline Village, NV in mid November. I drove trucks for 37 years and decided long ago it is better to have chains and not use them as opposed needing them and not having them. etrailer sent me the right product in a timely manner. They fit my car and are easy to install (tried them on in the driveway to understand installation rather than learning in cold, wet snow). I did not have to use them for the wedding but think they would perform well for my driving. I like the minimal clearance necessary for installation to save beating up my car!

by:
2020 Subaru Ascent

Tried them out on my 2020 Ascent and they fit fine and were easy to install (10 minutes - never installed any in the past) and remove (3 minutes). I'm glad I watched the video which specifies top speed of 30 mph. Also, the insert said to roll the car forward some and retighten chain. This was another key step. These might be better emphasized in the documentation as well.

by:
2021 Hyundai Palisade

Haven't gotten to drive on them in snow. But out of the box, they are a pain to deal with. Spent 30 mins untangling the damn thing as it managed to loop thru itself, like a wonderful fishing line. I've had and used several cable and chain style snow-chains and these were the worst. Can't wait to put them on while it's snowing! Too late to return. Last rant is the "locking" mechanism doesn't inspire confidence as it feels like a chain you'd hang a picture with... Will definitely be using a separate chain tensioner.

by:
2004 Dodge Dakota

Great chains and great traction for the price. They do tend to work lose often tho. If the rubber tensioners I placed on the back wouldn't of broke the first time I used them, I would order a set for the front chains.

2016 Toyota Tacoma

Great purchase. Fit my P245/75-R16 stock tires perfectly for my 2016 Tacoma. Although I did not have to use them on my trip, they came with a great storage bag and picture instructions that I keep stored in my truck so I never forget them. I had asked about the best chains for my truck and tire size and these were recommended to me. Would recommend to others in similar situation. If unsure ask an expert on the etrailer website! Quick response!

by:

Good chains. Went on really fast. I really like the carrying case that they came in. They didn't seem too snug and made a lot of noise on the road at 25 mph. Stopped a few times to check if everything was ok... They were fine. The rubber tightener wasn't that tight and I was afraid that it might come off. It didn't.
Ultimately everything was fine and the chains are really good quality.
Shipping was good. Less than a week. I like the tracking feature.
My friend was using new cables and they looked pretty raggedy when we arrived at the ski resort. Mine still looked good. Pretty sure these are going to last a while.

by:

Just purchased these. Easy to put on and take off. Have not had to use these yet but wanted a set of chains in my 2 WD truck. I like the way these install on my tires, very easy. I’m concerned about the durability of the rubber chain fastener! Will it hold up over time? That is why I bought a couple of spares. Also noticed that after installation of the chains, felt that I still could not get as tight on the wheel as it should be. The fastener is only hooked on and had a concern that it could possibly become unhooked during use. Once hooked on, some mechanical fastener would make me feel a little more secure (snap hook or something?). Will see what happens after first use.

Chevrolet Tahoe

I was recently (February 2019) in the Lake Tahoe / Mammoth Mountain areas. I'm 52 years old and I was traveling alone. I used these chains multiple times during my trip. Even in 5 or so inches of snow with icy conditions, I had no problem installing them and removing them. I shortened the Tensioner chain a couple of links to tighten them up. Other that that, no adjustments were needed.

I am so glad you can install them without having to drive on them first. I had no need for anyone to help me. I recommend them!! Especially if you're alone.

by:

Purchased the tire chains for a trip last year to Colorado in late December. I did not have to use them but had them just in case. Practiced putting them on a couple of times before the trip. Easy to install. They appear to be well made. Will not use them much in south Louisiana. Thanks.

  • Tire Chain Recommendation for 245/50-20 Size Tires on a 2017 Honda Pilot
We do have a few tire chains that will fit the 245/50-20 tires on your 2017 Honda Pilot. When I looked up the online owner's manual for your Pilot it said that you need to use Class S rated chains due to low clearance on the back side of your front tires where the chains need to be installed. For your application I recommend going with the Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains # TC2323 because they have square links configured in the diamond pattern so you'll get great traction and more of...

  • Recommended Tire Chains For A Mahindra eMax 20s Tractor With Turf Tires
I can certainly point you in the right direction. For the rear 26x12-12 tires we have the titan chain # TC57FR. This is a ladder pattern, drive over chain. The drive over install process is fairly easy. It would take most folks 2 or 3 minutes per chain to install. Unfortunately we do not carry any chains small enough for the front 18x8.5-10 tires. Titan chain does list a part number 1723 in their catalogue, but we do not carry them here at etrailer. The chains we carry are mainly for...

  • Tire Chain Recommendation for 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 with LT245/75R16
For a set of tire chains for your tire size 245/75R16 the Titan Chains part # TC2323 have been confirmed as a fit and would be a great option. These chains are easy on the wallet, are pretty easy to install, and will provide great traction. I would also recommend you run these on the front axle as well. They will be easier to install than cables and will provide better traction for turning and stopping. If you did want cables for that tire size the part # PW2021C would be a fit. You...

  • Tire Chain Fit for a 2015 Ford Flex with 215/55-19 Size Tires
Since you said you are from California we are aware of the fact that there are several areas near you that require you to have tire chains in the vehicle, and in certain conditions have them installed on the car. What you are going to have to do is contact a local Ford dealer in the area you plan to travel that requires chains and ask them what you are to do. They may tell you that you can use a set of Class S chains that don't require as much inner wheel clearance like the Titan Chains...

  • Recommended Tire Chains for a 2013 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter with 245/75 R16 Sized Tires
Check the owner's manual to your 2013 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. From a copy I found online it states to only use tires chains on the rear wheels and not the front. So you only need one pair. You should still verify with your owner's manual to be sure though. I recommend the Titan Chain Alloy Chains, part # TC2323. They fit your 245/75 R16 tires and they're my favorite chains to recommend. They're made of the manganese nickel alloy, which is high quality, they're Class S so they don't...

  • Recommended Tire Chains for a 2015 Mercedes Benz ML400 with Continental M+S 265/45R20 Tires
One of my favorite tire chains is the Konig Self-Tensioning, Low-Pro Snow Tire Chains # TH04115265. These are confirmed to fit the size 265/45R20 tires on your 2015 Mercedes Benz ML400 and feature D links in a diamond pattern for superior traction. These are some of the easiest tire chains to put on due to the locking pedal mechanism. Here are the instructions: 1. Open the rigid arch section of the chain and pull the sides apart. 2. Drape the chain over the top of the tire and tug down...
